November 10, 2005 :: Canon MultiPASS 730

   Ok, now everyone, repeat after me: It's not the same, it's not the same, it's not the same. What's the question, you may ask? The question is, why is it, that there are much less expensive appliances available out there. Aren't they all the same? And the answer is? NO. Just as with eat2go and its functionality compared to something that can place a food order, the scope, breath, overall quality and functionality of the 730, as compared to its competition, is just not the same. This multifunction device replaces all of the specialized components in one convenient size unified package. Traditionally, you would have had to give up a lot by not choosing to go with specialized equipment that did one specific task. Not so, and not anymore. This device even includes a paper cover. This cover protects the paper from dirt and grime as it sit in the paper bin.

Once you unpack and plug-in this device, you may notice some curious slits located at the front of the device, just below the control panel. Actually, we reviewed the device without paying much attention to them. And then someone made a comment wondering what that was. Did we not snap some panel into place? That looks like media readers, someone said, perhaps, could it be? We looked closer, showed in a CF card and bingo! It is a reader only; however. You cannot write to the media, nor delete. What a shame! A variety of formats, including to Memory Stick, is supported.

The print quality is perfect. This printer is both fast, and very accurate. It's loaded with a large capacity black ink cartridge, and three smaller color canisters. If you are into digital photography and got yourself a 5+ Megapixel camera and are now wondering why your Walmart printer that you got for $30, is producing prints that look so disappointing, chances are the printer is the cause. The MultiPASS 730 printer utilizes the same Canon engine that is found in their upscale printers, and will produce stunning pictures (get good paper though).

The copier is fast, the fax is a G3 group fax that steps down, if needed, and the scanner is awesome. And best of all, this printer has a hopper. Want to fax a 50 page document to someone, just remove the staples, loaded it up, and dial the number. Same goes for copying. This printer will not replace a heavy duty office copier, but it is more than adequate for small business or home use and an occasional large job. We give it our highest marks, and strongly recommend it.
