June 7, 2006 ::  EtherFast Cable/DSL Firewall Router (4-Port 10/100 Switch / VPN Endpoint)

Linksys Router

  If you are getting tired of paying a bunch of money each year to some software company that promises to keep your systems safe, perhaps you should consider investing $80 to purchase this firewall router. This is an excellent appliance that has three Ethernet connections which are firewalled and one which is referred to as a DMZ, which is not. Of course, if you already own a Linksys access point or a Linksys switch, then the whole setup will look really cool, because you can stack them on top of each other as they simply plug in.

If you use one of the router's Ethernet connections and put it into the up-link of the switch,  then all the computers plugged into the switch are protected. This appliance does exactly what it is supposed to, and it does it very well. The management software comes within the appliance and is accessed through a web browser. Simply point the browser to the local IP address of the router and you're in. Remote router management is possible as well, but we discourage you from turning this feature on.

If you are hosting a site on one of your PC's or have PCAnywhere, or the like, running somewhere on your network, you can access the routing table within the router management software and forward the ports to the local IP address of the specific machine.

Overall, this appliance is very good and perform exactly to specifications.
